SO CUTE BOSS

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

A retro first-person shooter built in Unreal Engine 5, So Cute Boss draws on classic boomer shooters like Quake, Blood, Hexen, Dusk, and AMID EVIL. You play a reincarnated Demon Lord blitzing through ancient ruins with a movement kit built for speed: bunny hopping, dashing, wall jumping, and crouch sliding, all while juggling guns and spells.

The visual style pulls from early Serious Sam and the architecture of Mesopotamia, Babylon, and Egypt, run through a pixelation filter for a low-poly retro feel. The tone leans humorous, with a protagonist somewhere between Bayonetta and Borderlands, and a story that quietly pokes at destiny: if you were foretold to become a monster, were the murders ever really your choice? (Spoiler: the genre makes you one anyway.)

INSPIRATION

The world is inspired from Babylon, ancient Egypt and Assyria, pulling from their architecture, symbolism and design.

Gameplay Footage Showcasing the Game's Core Loop

3D ART

Every model was built low-poly and researched from real ancient Mesopotamian, Babylonian, and Egyptian design. This is the bulk of the game's visual identity.

Gameplay & Movement

A movement kit built for speed, so skilled players can blitz levels while newcomers can play it straight. Most systems are merged to keep the controls simple.

VFX (Niagara)

Niagara systems built to give the ancient world life and make combat more punchy.

Level Design

Every level started as a blockout to lock down layout and player flow, then got dressed and lit. Environments guide players toward objectives without relying on HUD markers.
